Overview of Development in South Downs National Park vs the rest of the District
The National Park published its last Annual Monitoring Report in December 2020 and looking at that, we thought it would be interesting to highlight some acute differences between the designated park area and the rest of Chichester District in terms of its planning policy housing obligations.
With the original target date for adoption of 2020, the new timetable for the Chichester Local Plan is now says not be before March 2023. We just have to hope that the housing requirements are published and clarified as soon as possible to inject a bit of certainty into the planning system...

The Government has been beset by issues with its ‘algorithms’ over the last year, whether related to calculating exam results or how they were proposed to be used in calculating the nationally 'binding housing' requirement flagged up in the Planning for the Future White Paper.
Proposed changes will mean an increase in the types of commercial properties that can be changed into residential dwellings and the ability to demolish empty and unneeded buildings if they are being replaced by residential dwellings.
